This week our Executive Director, Lisa Wickens-Alteri, and our President, Jeffrey Flynn, toured three New York State Ambulatory Surgery Centers. The two explored the impactful services of Crystal Run Surgery Center, Dutchess Ambulatory Surgery Center, and the Mid-Bronx Surgery Center, the last at which they were joined by New York State Senator Gustavo Rivera. These visits provided wonderful insight into the processes, needs, and paths of growth for New York State Ambulatory Surgery Centers. As always, we are so impressed by our ASC's and are honored to be joined by policymakers like Senator Rivera at these vital sights of care! 
NYSAASC's Veteran's Outreach Committee Chair, Gabe Figueroa, CASC, represented NYSAASC at a career fair at Fort Drum for soldiers and their families. Gabe showcased the NY ASC community and the job opportunities we offer transitioning military members. We can’t wait for the next event to continue bridging the ASC and veteran community together.

On December 6, 2023, NYSAASC officers Jon Van Valkenburg, President, Jeffrey Flynn, Vice President, and Helen Lowenwirth, Treasurer, embarked on a tour of four freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs) across New York City, to see firsthand and experience the cutting-edge advancements and innovation our centers are using to provide high quality care.
On this Veterans Day 2023, the New York State Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (NYSAASC) extends its heartfelt appreciation to veterans and US Military Service Members for their unwavering dedication to our great nation. Your service, sacrifice, and unyielding commitment have safeguarded our freedoms and inspired us all. Your legacy of courage and service leaves an indelible mark on our hearts. NYSAASC stands united in respect, admiration, and gratitude for the tremendous impact you've made. Thank you for your service, and may your stories continue to inspire us.
NYSAASC’s top legislative priority for 2023 is now the law! On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Governor Hochul signed legislation S6086/A3302 into law, which will add a representative of freestanding ambulatory surgery centers to the Public Health and Health Planning Council (PHHPC). To do so, the law expands the membership of PHHPC from 25 to 26. The enactment of this law is a major development for freestanding ambulatory surgery centers and their critical part of the healthcare system in New York State.

We are excited to share that several of our 2023 Annual Conference presenters were recently featured on the ASC Podcast with John Goehle. The ASC Podcast is a leading resource for Freestanding Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASCs), and we are proud that our speakers had the opportunity to share their insights with a wider audience.
The New York State Association of Ambulatory Surgery Centers (NYSAASC) emphasizes the importance of regular screenings for colorectal cancer.According to the American Cancer Society, colorectal cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, and causes over 50,000 deaths per year. However, with early detection through regular screenings, colorectal cancer is highly treatable. Our organization encourages all individuals who are at risk of developing colorectal cancer, particularly those over the age of 50 or with a family history of the disease, to discuss screening options with their healthcare providers.
